3D filtration for solids separation in liquid media

Antonio Hernandez, Dipl. Ing.-ETH
Mecana Umwelttechnik

In order to maintain the quality of our ecosystems in the long term, measures are needed to protect water bodies from anthropogenic solid inputs.

The use of 3-D polarised filters makes it possible to achieve this goal in the smallest of spaces with low energy consumption and high separation efficiency.

This presentation will demonstrate this using various examples

Current water issues: Micropollutants in raw and drinking water Climate change: Changes in water supply and demand

Rolf Meier, Deputy Director & Head of Water Division
SVGW

Current water issues: Micropollutants in raw and drinking water – human activities leave traces in the raw water of water suppliers. What are the future challenges for a safe water supply?

Climate change: Changes in water supply and demand – global warming is a fact and poses specific challenges for Switzerland in the area of water supply. What measures can we take to face up to the new reality?

Do your guided tours leave a lasting impression?

Dr. Kirsten Schütz
Line-e manager
Energie Zukunft Schweiz AG

Infrastructure facilities are indispensable for our society. It is therefore important to convey to the general public an understanding of the relevance and functioning of power plants, wastewater treatment plants, drinking water treatment plants and waste recycling plants. With our Linie-e visitor platform, we have been taking care of our partners’ infrastructure facilities for over 12 years and opening the doors to their infrastructure facilities for companies, associations, school classes and specialist groups. We design and organise guided tours on your behalf and guarantee exciting entertainment, lasting impressions and a playful approach to first-hand knowledge.

Corona monitoring in wastewater

Christoph Ort, Group Manager in the Urban Water Management Department
Eawag

Many systems and machines are operated in Switzerland that are not yet smart but should still be operated for a few more years. We use various implemented projects to show how we have made systems fit for predictive maintenance and what benefits have resulted for the operator from analysing the data stream.

Trace substance elimination at wastewater treatment plants - development of the processes and initial operating experience

Aline Brander
Research assistant
VSA

Since 2016, selected wastewater treatment plants have been obliged under water protection legislation to build a new purification stage for the elimination of trace substances by 2040. Since then, the possible range of processes has developed and the processes have been optimised. Numerous large-scale operating experiences are already available on which future projects can build.

Online monitoring of organic material "SAK 254"

Astrid Mayer
Product Manager Drinking Water
Swan Analytische Instrumente AG

The measurement of UV absorption offers far more application possibilities than is widely known. The measuring principle and two interesting applications will be briefly presented:
– In UV disinfection plants, absorption measurement not only guarantees the safety of the drinking water produced, but also helps to significantly reduce costs by regulating the output of the plant according to the raw water quality.
– More and more WWTPs are now obliged to carry out ozonisation as a 4th purification stage in order to reduce the content of organic micropollutants. The success of ozonation can be quantified by means of UV absorption measurement.

INNOVATION IN INSTALLATION - New innovation programme for Swiss companies

Dr. Melanie Geiger

Analysing and specifically measuring systems and industrial processes that are electrically powered is an indispensable basis for a serious assessment and planning of energy optimisation and renewal measures. With the ProAnalySys programme, the SFOE promotes such engineering services and covers up to 40% of the costs. In addition, the SFOE supports the implementation of non-economic efficiency measures in the electricity sector via the ProKilowatt competitive calls for tenders with CHF 50 million per year for projects and programmes. These two funding instruments are presented.

SAK measurement in wastewater: What needs to be considered?

Stefan Vogel
Endress+Hauser Schweiz

Global standards from IEC and ISO for efficient drive systems have greatly advanced the technical development of motors, pumps and fans over the last 10 years. Standards form the basis for government minimum requirements in Europe and Switzerland. The introduction of stricter IE efficiency classes for the minimum requirements of motors and drives is currently underway from mid-2021
